I’m the designer and creator of the original Hearse Purse®.

Before Hearse Purse®, my life looked very different. I was a successful fantasy art model, working with some of the industry’s most respected artists and traveling across the country doing what I loved. Along the way, I was honored to be named one of the Top 10 Fantasy Art Models.

Then, almost as if by fate, the vision for Hearse Purse® appeared—and soon afterward, I was unexpectedly immersed in the funeral industry. Before I knew it, I was serving as COO, overseeing five funeral homes, two crematories, and later developing cemeteries. Talk about an unexpected turn of events.

Like the old cliché, it’s true—Hearse Purse® began as a sketch on a napkin. That simple drawing became a cardboard prototype on my dining room table in 2000. Armed with cardboard, toothpicks, and glue, I carefully built the very first Hearse Purse® by hand. Every measurement was intentional. I wanted a purse that carried only the essentials while capturing the distinctive proportions and character of a classic hearse. What started as a humble handmade model has, through years of persistence, creativity, and determination, become the original Hearse Purse®.

The idea came to me many moons ago, and what began as a spark of inspiration soon became a lifelong passion. In many ways, the vision has haunted me, like a lonely hearse traveling a deserted road. No matter where life led me, I could never leave it behind. It was always there, patiently waiting for the right time.

The journey has been anything but easy. There have been setbacks, obstacles, disappointments, and moments when the dream felt impossibly out of reach. But I never stopped believing in the vision or in what Hearse Purse® could become.

If you happen to notice that one of my signature designs is called the Nomad, there’s a reason. Nomad is Damon spelled backward. It’s a small, personal reflection of how I’ve often felt throughout this journey—turned around, jolted, and moving in a direction I never expected. Yet somehow, every unexpected twist led me right back to the dream that started it all.

Today, that vision is finally becoming a reality.

Every Hearse Purse® is my tribute to the beauty, craftsmanship, and rich history of the hearse. These remarkable vehicles deserve to be admired, remembered, and celebrated, and I hope my designs inspire others to appreciate them as much as I do.
